“The Wing” Cathay Pacific and DragonAir Lounge in Hong Kong International Airport

Cathay Pacific is the largest airline of Hong Kong, with its head office and main hub located at Hong Kong International Airport.  The Wing, Business is a premium lounge for First and Business class passengers, along with selected Marco Polo Club members and oneworld frequent flyers.

The Wing is at least 10 times larger than the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge at San Francisco International Airport.

It has divided in different sections, like The Noodle Bar, The Coffee Loft,…

Since we already have super before we came to the airport, we skip the food, but we cannot resist on the fine wines.  We enjoyed their premium champagne and red wines.

Many of Cathay Pacific flights were delayed that night because of the aircrafts were not able to come to the gates as they assigned.  In fact, we did not understand the exact reason why the flight was delayed since the aircraft was already at the airport.  Anyway, we were more than one hour delay.  Glad that we have a comfort corner in the lounge for us to kill sometime.

Our Business Class Award Ticket by Using American AAdvantage

We used our American AAdvantage to redeem our tickets from Hong Kong to San Francisco by Cathay Pacific because both American Airlines and Cathay Pacific are oneworld members.

  • First Class one-way Award Ticket requires 67,500 miles for redemption
  • Business Class one-way Award Ticket requires 55,000 miles for redemption

If you have American AAdvantage Platinum Select card, you will earn 10% redeemed miles back, for up to 10,000 miles per calendar year.

By using 12,500 miles extra, you can ride with First Class, instead of Business Class.  It is worthy.  Unfortunately, that flight only had one First Class award seat available and my wife and I did not want to seat in 2 different classes.  Therefore, we went for the business class.  After trying so many times in First Class seating, you definitely will find the Business Class seating too narrow.  In fact, we have nothing to complaint since we fell asleep very soon after the flight took off.  By the time we woke up, it was breakfast time and the flight was going to land at San Francisco International Airport in about 2 hours.
