I used my Ritz Carlton Rewards Card and my wife used American Express Platinum Card to charge on our Global Entry applications. Both application fee of $100 each are reimbursed by the 2 cards as travel credit respectively.
Benefits of Global Entry
Global Entry Members are eligible to participate in TSA PreCheck. U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents enrolled in NEXUS or SENTRI are also eligible to participate in TSA PreCheck.
For Global Entry member, you have a membership number (PASS ID) and please enter the PASS ID in the “Known Traveler Number” field when booking reservations, or enter it into your frequent flyer profile with the airline. The membership number enables Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) secure flight system to verify that you are a legitimate Trusted Traveler.
Where You Can Find Your Membership Member
Logging into your Global Online Enrollment System (GOES) account, your membership number is listed toward the bottom of the page. You can also located the membership number on the back upper-left corner of your Trusted Traveler card.
You do not need the Trusted Traveler card to travel because your card is linked with your passport.
Should I Apply for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck
I would recommend Global Entry if you do not mind to pay for $15 extra on the application fee. Both of them offer 5 years membership. Global Entry application fee is $100 and TSA PreCheck application fee is $85. With the extra $15 that you paid ($3 per year), give you extra convenience when you travel aboard.
The TSA PreCheck allows for expedited airport screening at TSA checkpoints in specific airports. Global Entry members are eligible for TSA PreCheck benefits.
Passengers considered low-risk who qualify for the TSA PreCheck program can receive expedited screening either as a member of the program or another specific trusted traveler group.
Not all the airlines offer TSA PreCheck. The following airlines do:
- Air Canada
- Alaska Airlines
- American Airlines
- Delta Airlines
- Hawaiian Airlines
- JetBlue Airways
- Southwest Airlines
- Sun Country
- United Airlines
- Virgin America
TSA PreCheck Members No Need to Remove:
- 3-1-1 liquids
- Light jackets
Our Experience in Global Entry Interview
We had a trip to Las Vegas last week, therefore, we scheduled our Global Entry Appointment in Las Vegas Airport. After you submit your application, you will receive a pre-approval email in one week and ask you to schedule an interview. We scheduled on appointment on our return date from Las Vegas to San Jose at Las Vegas Airport. The Global Entry office is located at level 0, in terminal 3. You take the door 58 go outside of the terminal, then there are signs to lead you to the Global Entry office. We were there early, but within 5 minutes, we were greeted by an officer, and it took 5 minutes for the whole interview process. The officer asked me what I did for living. After the question, he took my photo and fingerprints. In less than 15 minutes, both me and my wife finished the interviews.
Smooth and easy.
