Ritz Carlton Rewards Points vs Airline Miles
Back in beginning of the year, I applied for Ritz Carlton Credit Card and I paid $395.annual fee to earn the 140,000 Ritz Carlton Bonus Rewards.
I am planning to use the bonus points for my Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay stay for 2 nights.
From the above example, we will stay at Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay on August 9 -11, 2015 for 2 nights, Coastal View room.
If we pay for the room, it will cost us $1522.70 for 2 nights and if we use the rewards points, it will cost us 140,000 reward points plus $55.50.
With the calculation build in my annual fee on the Ritz Carlton card, in which I paid $395 already, my 140,000 reward points = $1522.70 – $55.50 – $395 = $1072.20.
Should I get Ritz Carlton Points or Frequent Flyer Miles for the stays?
For hotel stay, you can earn 10 Ritz Carlton Rewards points or 2 airline miles per US dollar spent on room rate.
In another word, I need to spend $14,000 to earn 140,000 Ritz Carlton Rewards points or 28,000 airlines miles. If you are a big fan of Ritz Carlton, yes you may want to earn Ritz Carlton Rewards points for your stay. Or if you usually travel in coach class, value of Ritz Carlton Rewards points could be higher than a roundtrip economy ticket.
We are not big fans of luxury hotel. As long as it is excellent, we do not need superior like Ritz Carlton because when we travel, we do not spend too much time in the hotel.
We are big fans of travel luxury in business class or first class, we will find the miles more value than Ritz Carlton Rewards points because international business class roundtrip ticket usually cost approximate $8000 and international first class roundtrip ticket usually cost approximate $20,000.
