Devaluation of Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
Starting from March 23, it is no more 15% award discount to book online. They increased the award miles and removed fuel and insurance surcharges on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir operated flights.
I used 70,125 miles for my one way first class saver award redemption from San Francisco to Hong Kong in March with the 15% award discount to book online myself. Now I need 92,000 miles for the same route, which is 31.19% more KrisFlyer miles.
Where I Earn my KrisFlyer Miles?
I transferred my Citi ThankYou points, Chase Ultimate Rewards, and Amex Membership Rewards to my KrisFlyer account in Singapore Airlines.
Singapore Airlines is Star Alliances partner, so you can redeem Singapore Airlines award thru the participate members also.
Since saver award is not available all the time, you can only waitlist your saver award flight thru Singapore Airlines, but not with Star Alliance members. In my past experience, I got 100% success ratio on my waitlist flights with Singapore Airlines. If you waitlisted and did not get the sward seat clear in a reasonable time, you can call Singapore Airlines customer service and request the representative to send an urgent request to their headquarter, that could expedite your chance in clearing the waitlist reservation. You can waitlist for many dates as you want, so be flexible and do not waitlist only one day.
